Founder - Roger Phillips

Roger, the founder of the Linden Wind Orchestra, was born in New Zealand but lived in England from the age of eight. Roger joined the Band of the Coldstream Guards as a clarinettist and it was here that he gained his experience as an instrumentalist and travelled the world playing at numerous destinations and venues.

Although self-taught at conducting, he gained a vast knowledge of the repertoire pertaining to the wind orchestra as a conductor. When the Director of Music was unavailable, Roger regularly took the Coldstream Band for rehearsals and it was here that he learned to conduct and interpret the music as a whole, as opposed to being involved as a clarinettist in the band.

With retirement looming, Roger thankfully decided to form his own ensemble, and it is the Linden Wind Orchestra that was the result. Roger died in January 2010.
